Sometimes people need someone who really listens. Someone who takes the time and pays attention to their story. As a COiL volunteer, you can be that person.
You have one-to-one conversations with residents who need a good chat. That can be about major life events, feelings of loneliness or questions about life. Sometimes someone wants to pause and reflect on what matters or talk about the future. And sometimes it is simply nice to be heard.
As a volunteer, you offer a listening ear. You are there for the other person, without judgement. You help someone to sort and interpret their thoughts and feelings. Your presence and attention can make a difference to someone.
This volunteer work is valuable and special. You get the opportunity to have meaningful contact and to make a difference for someone else. Experience is not necessary. Having the capacity for someone else from an open attitude is the most important thing. You will receive an initial training and regular support to practise your listening ear and develop yourself.
